CALIFORNIA BREED’s self titled debut album was released yesterday, Monday, May 19 on Frontiers Records and is already #2 on the U.S. iTunes Rock albums chart and climbing national charts in Europe. The full album premiered on UltimateClassicRock.com last week. Listen to it for a limited time here: http://tinyurl.com/nj6kkkm.

Mixing massive riffs, gutsy vocals and gale force rhythms, the album was produced by Dave Cobb (Jamey Johnson, Rival Sons, Shooter Jennings), and was recorded at his Nashville studio and features equal co-writing credits among the three-man lineup.

CALIFORNIA BREED will perform their first-ever U.S. show on Wednesday, May 28 at the Whisky A GO GO and their first New York City show will be Saturday, May 31 at Gramercy Theatre. The band will announce their U.K., European and U.S. tours soon.

CALIFORNIA BREED’s self-titled debut is garnering solid early reviews. Check out a sampling of the critical reaction here:

California Breed eclipses anything Black Country Communion mustered in their short existence. ‘The Way’ and ‘Chemical Rain’ pack bombastic, swaggering Led Zep-meets-Audioslave riffs, ‘Spit You Out’ is straight-up good time rock ‘n’ roll and ‘All Falls Down’ is a decent stab at the token power-charged ballad. Watt’s undoubted spark has pulled these two seasoned vets out of a rut…”

–Rich Chamberlain, TOTAL GUITAR, May 2014

California Breed is a raw, fiery rock cocktail that marries belligerent attitude with heartfelt emotion, delicate touch with super confident strut. First single ‘Sweet Tea’ is irresistible, hard hitting rock swagger, while closing number ‘Breathe’ is an uplifting, soulful hymn of understated groove that highlights Glenn’s evergreen vocal talents.”

–Chris Kee, POWERPLAY MAGAZINE, May 2014

California Breed are another supergroup of sorts, but this time they’re a power trio, with new guitar sensation 23-year old Andrew Watt threatening to become the most talked about axe slinger since Charlie Sexton burst onto the scene. Like Sexton, Watt is a Bowie-phile. In fact he came to Hugh’s attention via a hair-raising stint at a New York City ‘Bowie Ball.’ Hughes’s monstrous pipes and super funk bass thwack are a given, as is Jason Bonham’s percussive assault, yet even these seasoned campaigners must be rubbing their eyes in disbelief at what the prodigy achieves.”

–Max Bell, CLASSIC ROCK MAGAZINE, May 2014

California Breed’s debut highlights the best of all three virtuosos without overstating the obvious. Because in the end, it really is all about the groove.”

–James Wood, GUITAR WORLD, May 2014

“…muscular yet funky riffage….this debut album gets the fist pumping and the heart righteously racing.”

About CALIFORNIA BREED:
Glenn Hughes has spent the subsequent years working with the biggest legends in music, as a solo star, and guesting with everyone from Black Sabbath to Earth, Wind & Fire – up to his most recent collaboration in rock supergroup Black Country Communion, which included Jason Bonham. When Black Country Communion disbanded Hughes and Bonham had a strong desire to keep playing together. They’re only challenge was finding a new guitarist worthy of their musicality.  Easier said than done for these stars who between them have worked with some of the greatest guitarists in history – including Ritchie Blackmore, Tony Iommi, Jimmy Page and Joe Bonamassa, to name just a few. Then fate took a hand in things when Glenn’s friend Julian Lennon introduced him to the astounding talents of a New York City hotshot guitarist named Andrew Watt. “Literally, the first day me and Andrew got together we wrote two songs,” recalls Glenn. “One was ‘Chemical Rain’ and the other was ‘Solo’, both of which are now on the finished album. I was so moved by the music, I said, ‘We’ve got to record this!’ That’s when I called Jason.” Cut to autumn 2013. Recording with Dave Cobb at the producer’s own studio in Nashville, added all the finishing touches, says Glenn. At Cobb’s insistence, every vocal was recorded live as the band was playing. “Totally the reverse of what I’m used to,” says Glenn. “But I went into that aggressive rock soulfulness and everything down to the whispers, it was all done live! I enjoyed myself so much, just going for it. For what is on paper a three-piece, the sheer range of sounds and melodies you get from California Breed are breathtaking.
