As the April 29 release date approaches for THE STRING CHEESE INCIDENT’s much-anticipated album SONG IN MY HEAD via SCI Fidelity Records/Loud & Proud Records, the band has teamed up with BILLBOARD.COM to exclusively premiere the new album in its entirety, today (4/24). This also comes the same day as the band’s intimate performance and in-store signing at Amoeba Records in San Francisco, as well as the kick-off of a three night run at Oakland’s Fox Theater (4/24-26).

When asked about recording in the studio, the band’s Michael Kang tells Billboard.com, “We really love it. For us, it gets us in a real creative zone. We get the opportunity to get together, rehearse, write new songs, and try new things out. I think ‘Song in My Head’ played a key role in motivating us all to keep writing and pushing what we are doing.” Jason Hann adds: “Every one of us, at this point, are songwriters and are really interested in the production aspect of being in the studio.”

To further the celebration of SONG IN MY HEAD’s release, the band will perform a free ‘incident’ on The Hill in Boulder–the Colorado city they’ve called home since the early days of the band–this Monday, April 28 from 6 PM to 8 PM Mountain Time with the stage set up on 13th Street and College Avenue. The band posted a video announcement here.

SONG IN MY HEAD is perhaps the band’s tightest and most skillful album yet and features 10 new songs written collaboratively by the group. Of the new collection, Relix magazine wrote: “On The String Cheese Incident’s first new studio album in nine years, they truly sound like they’ve found a comfortable, collaborative groove. Song in My Head comes off like a live iteration of the band, and maybe that’s because it’s loaded with 10 tight-sounding, jam-ready songs…Each musician’s creativity, voice and flavor shines through.” (April/May 2014) Paul Freeman of the San Jose Mercury News raved the album “…represents a stirring return for the revered Colorado alt-bluegrass jam band. This vibrant, polished album was produced by Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads)…After 20 years, the band’s harmonies and instrumentation sound tight and spirited.” (4/16/14) Additionally, Jambase.com said, “The end result is an album that is quite possibly the band’s most musically tight and adeptly tied together studio effort to date. These songs ignite a sense of freshness and new inspiration but at times feels stripped down to the core sound of the band’s early years” (4/18/14) and GratefulMusic.com said, “Song In My Head is a project the band specifically designed to encompass everything that is The String Cheese Incident and it does just that among it’s well-timed beats, driving rhythm, guitar licks, fiddle jams, bass rides, in the studio it sets a pace that keeps the bar brilliantly high for these titans of the Live Music World.” (4/18/14) Check out a promotional video for the album here.
